Reader power selects books for new ‘democratic’ publisher

Supported by Faber & Faber and created by the writers of QI (John Mitchinson and Justin Pollard) and Crap Towns (Dan Kieran), Unbound claims to be:

“A new way of bringing authors and readers together. We believe both deserve a greater say in which books get published. From May 29th 2011, Unbound will make that happen. No middlemen or marketers. Just authors, readers and great ideas.”

The new service’s video explains more:

Speaking at the Hay Festival today, Mitchinson, Kieran and Pollard are quoted in The Bookseller:

“There are lots of great books that we’re not getting the opportunity to read. Unbound democratises the book commissioning process by enabling authors and readers to make the decisions about what does or doesn’t get published.”
