Alison’s top five changes to look out for are:

Warning! Self-publishing is changing the culture of book publishing. Image: YanivG/Flickr.

  1. The wider appreciation of what publishing entails, and the challenges in doing it well.
  2. The decrease in confidence that publishers (and agents) still know best.
  3. The rising demand for (and associated payrate rise of) skilled copy editors.
  4. The growth of ‘book as precious object’ marketing.
  5. The increasing market knowledge of (and unmediated communication by) authors.
